Dear Soror,

In a statement published on May 1, 2015, we included a notation pertaining to the greek affiliation of Baltimore City State’s Attorney, Marilyn Mosby. After doing another extensive review of the sorority’s database, we have discovered an inadvertent error was made in the original statement and Baltimore City State Attorney, Marilyn Mosby is not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. We regret this error and a correction to the original statement is noted below. The members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority continue to commend the extraordinary background and accomplishments of Baltimore City State Attorney, Marilyn Mosby as she continues to execute the duties of her office and remain a steadfast supporter of justice in the Baltimore community.

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA EXPRESSES SUPPORT OF SWIFT ACTION
TAKEN IN FREDDIE GRAY CASE
(CORRECTION – MAY 3, 2015)

CHICAGO — May 3, 2015 — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) commends Baltimore City State Attorney Marilyn Mosby for working swiftly to bring charges against the officers involved in Freddie Gray’s death last month.

International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson said the sorority’s 283,000 members worldwide will continue to closely monitor the case as Baltimore looks to rebuild and revitalize the community after rioting and looting earlier this week. “We are absolutely disturbed to learn of the horrific way in which Freddie Gray died at the alleged hands of these officers who pledged to protect and serve,” Buckhanan Wilson said. “There is no place in Baltimore or anywhere in our country for police officers such as the ones that are charged with this horrific act.”

Buckhanan Wilson also said she hoped cooler heads would continue to prevail in Baltimore and around the country. “Violence within the community is not the answer. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will continue to work closely with the Baltimore community to support and rebuild its community.” In response to the rioting and unrest in the Baltimore area, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority quickly deployed local chapters and members to provide relief, resources and comfort to those most in need.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority continues to offer prayers and support to Baltimore Mayor and AKA member, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, as they continue to seek justice for Gray’s family and Baltimore residents. In addition, the Sorority lends support to newly confirmed U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, as she executes the duties of her office and related investigations.

The sorority, through its network of chapters, will continue its push for social justice throughout the world.
