 Greetings Soror,

As many of you are aware, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is proposing that S. Stony Island Ave from E. 56th St - E. 130th St. be renamed after the late Bishop Arthur M. Brazier founder of Apostolic Church of God located in the Woodlawn neighborhood. This proposal will be brought to the attention of the Committee on Transportation & Public Way on October 9 at 11:30 a.m. on the 2nd floor of City Hall.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority proudly acknowledges and honors the late Dr. Brazier’s many accomplishments as a prominent civic leader, minister and Founder of The Woodlawn Organization; however, we oppose the renaming of Stony Island Avenue in its entirety. Besides placing a huge financial burden on our organization, the address 5656 S. Stony Island Avenue has significant historical meaning to us as well.

In order for our concerns to be heard, we must attend the October 9th meeting in masses. Please let the Corporate Office know if you plan to attend by emailing streetrenaming@aka1908.com or calling 773-684-1282 to RSVP by 12:00pm on Monday, October 7. After you RSVP, we will send you additional mobilization details.

We also encourage you to write letters to the Mayor and your Alderman stating your opposition of renaming the entire street.

We look forward to seeing you on October 9th at 11:30 am on the 2nd floor of City Hall wearing your pink and green.
