As a part of our countdown to the general election, Alpha Kappa Alpha will be participating in National Voter Registration Day on September 27, 2016 — a day set aside to celebrate America’s use of voting to make major decisions in our representative democracy and to create a national means to register voters.

The International Connection Committee is calling all chapters to take A.C.T.I.O.N. through Alpha Kappa Alpha’s voter awareness program, Be The Voice, and participate in National Voter Registration Day on September 27, 2016. Chapters are asked to plan their own in-person voter registration and voter education events. During the 2016 Regional Conferences, Boule, Undergraduate Round-Ups and Clusters, the International Connection Committee set forth a goal of increasing African American voter participation rates in the 2016 election to mirror or exceed 2008 and 2012 record voter turnout percentages.

4 Easy Steps for Chapter Connection Committee Chairmen:

1. Go to the National Voter Registration Day website (http://nationalvoterregistrationday.org)
2. Complete the 2016 Partner Sign-On agreement. (http://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/partners/partner-sign-up/)
3. Create a National Voter Registration Event and post it on the website. (http://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/events/)
4. Share your event with your State Coordinator and via social media using #AKA1908 and #BETHEVOICE.

In addition, we are requesting that all regions and chapters use the provided Be the Voice sign at all voter registration events, candidate forums and other Connection activities. Please discontinue usage of all other Be the Voice or voting related AKA inspired images.
