December 13, 2018

Dear Sorors:

I bring greetings to you and your family during this holiday season!

As the year draws to a close, I want to again express my gratitude for your generosity and commitment to achieving the record-breaking, single-day goal of raising $1 million to support the nation's 106 Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the AKA-HBCU Endowment Initiative. On September 17, we raised over $1.2 million toward our $10 million goal and showed the world the collective power of Alpha Kappa Alpha. This monumental feat has firmly placed us on the path to $10 million which will be achieved by a sustained, collective effort.

Many of you have already made a contribution or have pledged to make a contribution. If you made an annual pledge, I am asking you to do your best to fulfill your pledge by the end of the year. We began this campaign by asking each soror to make a minimum annual contribution of $35 for each of the next four (4) years to support HBCUs. Most of us are familiar with the financial plight of our Black colleges and the need for us to provide support. Your $35 contribution to EAF in support of the AKA-HBCU Endowment Initiative will greatly assist in this effort.

For some sorors, I recognize that you will be making an additional contribution. Consider that if 20,000 sorors contribute $35 by the end of this year, we will raise another $700,000 to support the AKA-HBCU Endowment Initiative. That amount alone will fund the endowments of 14 other HBCUs.

So, as you plan your year-end charitable giving, I hope you will commit to making a contribution to the AKA Educational Advancement Foundation at www.akaeaf.org by December 31. You may also mail your contribution directly to AKA EAF, 5656 South Stony Island Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637. Your contribution is fully tax deductible and can be designated for the HBCU of your choice.

Sorors, I cannot express to you how grateful I am for your support of this important initiative. I personally know the impact that establishing an endowment has on a student's enrollment or graduation prospects. To this end, the first Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated endowments will be established in early 2019. We are inviting one-third of the HBCU presidents to our Corporate Office to receive the first payment toward their college or university’s AKA-HBCU Endowment Fund. We will invite the remaining HBCU presidents to receive their endowment payments over the next two (2) years. Let's continue the momentum toward our $10 million goal and create an educational legacy that will transform lives by investing in the futures of young people at our treasured HBCUs.

Happy Holidays!

Yours in Alpha Kappa Alpha Excellence,

Soror Glenda Glover
